A LOST TREASURE
Created at the turn of the century, The Italian Garden is a four-acre ‘pleasure garden’ set in the rolling hills of South Devon. Inspired by Mediterranean gardens, its creator Arthur Smith Graham brought plants and trees over from Italy and hired architect Thomas Henry Lyon to build several structures, including an elaborate summerhouse. Sadly, in the 1960s, the garden fell to neglect, but it has recently been restored to glory and is now Grade II listed. Tours by appointment, or see theitaliangarden.org for event information.
