Mungo Park Medal for TV news reporter
Journalist Lindsey Hilsum and the Mungo Park medal (inset) Journalist Lindsey Hilsum is to receive the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s prestigious Mungo Park Medal at a special ceremony in Perth on September 15.
Afterwards, the international editor for Channel 4 News will also give a lecture at Perth’s AK Bell Library at 7.30pm about her 20 years spent covering major world conflicts.
Hilsum has reported fromTurkey, Syria, Cameroon and Ukraine and travelled to war zones in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo.
The Mungo Park Medal is awarded to those who show an outstanding contribution to geographical knowledge through exploration or adventure in potentially hazardous physical or social environments.
Previous recipients include fellow journalist Kate Adie, 18th century explorer Freya Stark,Thor Heyerdahl of the Kontiki expedition and leading Norwegian explorer Rune Gjeldnes.
RSGS Communications Officer Gemma McDonald said:“She is a truly inspirational person and we are thrilled to both award her our Mungo Park medal and have the opportunity to hear her speak.”
