On the right path
A horticultural project aiming to help individuals with health and disability issues has overseen another successful makeover.
‘Working Roots’, supported by Perth and Kinross Council, provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their employability skills through work experience in horticulture.
Three individuals from‘Working Roots’ recently transformed the front garden area at Westbank House on Jeanfield Road in Perth.
Removal of shrubs and debris, mono blocking, laying of turf, building of dry stone walls and even the construction of a gazebo were all undertaken.
The project was facilitated by the council’s employment support team, which works in partnership with the community safety and environment service departments, as well as local employers.
The transformation of the garden was made possible through the donations, help and support of local employers and businesses as well as the Unpaid Work Team who all contributed to the final design and the success of the garden.
Web Walk Friarton, South Inch Pavilion, Lewis Place and New Rannoch Day Centres for Older Adults and Blairgowrie Day Opportunities Day Centre are to benefit from the scheme in the future.
