Annual Spring show success for SWI

Auchterard­er

The meeting was opened by President Diane Holme who welcomed members and visitors.

The minutes of the February meeting were approved and seconded, correspond­ence read out and forthcomin­g events notified.

Diane welcomed members of Blackford SWI who were there to entertain us. This they did admirably with a varied and enjoyable programme.

First was Lexa with Irish Bingo, then Shona showed us how to make aWaffleber­ry Pudding which we all got to sample later.

Next wasTracey with a Hedgehog Quiz. Nicki then showed us how to make small flowers with wireandnai­l varnish.

Lexa demonstrat­ed a quick starter with goats cheese and chili beetroot . A memory quiz fromTracey andShonafi­nished off by singing two songs.

A supperwasp­rovidedby Auchterard­er members after which everyone visited the Bring and BuyTable .

The raffle was drawn and competitio­n results announced.

Birnam and Dunkeld

The SWI held its March meeting in the Birnam Institute. Jennifer Clunie gave a talk on her holiday to Patagonia and Antarctica.

She illustrate­d her talk with a film of the wonderful scenery and animal life on that continent with accompanyi­ng orchestral music.

The next meeting and AGM will be held in the Birnam lnstitute on Tuesday, April 18, at 7.30pm.

A talk and demonstrat­ion on making blinds will be given by HazelWard.The competitio­ns are for a favourite egg cup and Easter biscuits.

The DrValentin­e’s competitio­n is for something new from something old.

Bridge of Earn

MrsWilma Scott, President welcomed members and guests to our March meeting. Various business matters were dealt with. Our speaker for the evening was Mrs Jane Sanderson, a member of Abernethy SWI who gave a talk with a powerpoint presentati­on on her trip to Kiliminjar­o.Together in a party of eight she started off on safari for a few days then climbed Kiliminjar­o and finished off on a few days holiday in Zanzebar.

This was a wonderful experience for Jane to celebrate a“Special Birthday”. Mrs Flo Millar gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the members.Tea and goodies were served with the raffle.

Burrelton and Woodside

After business was conducted President Irene Smith introduced Michael and Rona Archibald from Perth Street Pastors.

They gave a talk on the work that they do. Competitio­ns 3 rock buns - 1 Anne Haughs, 2 CarolineWe­ston, 3 Sarah Urie. Napkin with ring - 1 Sarah Urie, 2 Margaret Gordon and 3 Chris Pickthall. Flower of the month -Margaret Morrison.

Carse

Carse Group SWI held its heats for the Elizabeth Gardner Competitio­n,“Pointless”, in GlencarseV­illage Hall on Monday, March 13.

The winners were Balbeggie Institute represente­d by Kathy Cameron and Ann Gwynne.

The runners up were Longforgan Institute represente­d by Pat Sneddon and Brigid Craig. Balbeggie will go forward to represent Carse Group at the Federation Finals in Kinrossie on April 26.

Collace and Kinrossie

President Janet Rougvie opened the meeting and introduced the speaker Helen Brady who gave us a very informativ­e talk on the work of Heart Start (funded by NHSTayside).

Helen also demonstrat­ed how to use a defibrilla­tor and answered a range of questions from the floor including the ●The Perth and Kinross Federation of the SWI held its annual Spring Show at the Bankfoot Church Centre.

The event had displays and competitio­ns entries on various themes including handcrafts, housewives, bulbs and floral art.

Crook of Devon

At the February meeting Mrs Margaret Arbuckle welcomed members and introduced Mrs Margo Moran who gave a most interestin­g talk on Hardanger embroidery, she had brought along samples of her work and later members tried their hand at some stitching.

A vote of thanks was given by Mary Paterson. Competitio­n winner:Valentine card MarjoryWal­sh. At the March meeting President Alice Johnson welcomed members and introduced the speaker for the evening, Ben Houston from Blair Drummond Safari Park, he gave a history on how the park started and a very interestin­g and entertaini­ng talk on life with the animals at Blair Drummond. Kim Massey gave the vote of thanks .

Methven

Methven combined with Pitcairngr­een at Pitcairngr­een Hall. Mrs Audrey Michie, President and her members were hosts to a successful evening, joined by members of Methven.

The speaker was Mr Angus Whitson, accompanie­d by his wife who sat in the audience.

MrWhitsont­old numerous stories about his past and present experience­s in the Scottish countrysid­e.

He was thanked by a member of Pitcairngr­een for a very entertaini­ng talk.

Kinglands

Margaret Cummings welcomed members and introduced Bill Nicoll who talked to us about his time as a BBC camera man.The results of the competitio­ns were Cheese Scones - 1, Margaret Cummings. 2, Lily Ferguson 3, Maureen Jones. Flower of the month 1, Margaret Cummings. 2, Janet Chalmers. 3, Susan McGhee.

Pitcairngr­een

President Audrey Michie opened the meeting and welcomed our guests and the members of Methven Institute to our joint meeting.

The speaker was Angus Whitson who is well known as “The man with two dogs”who writes in the Courier each Saturday. He told us of his great interest in the countrysid­e and wildlife he encounters when walking his dogs. Competitio­ns: Whisky Glass - 1 Christine Milne 2 Audrey Michie 3 Louise Duncan.
