Housing survey results revealed

Mixed opinions on Kinross-shire homes

- Paul Cargill

The results of a consultation on potential future developments at three sites in Kinross-shire appear to show the public does not support two of the proposals put forward.

Perth and Kinross Council decided to hold an “additional” consultation on sites being considered for new housing in Rumbling Bridge, Crook of Devon and Blairingone ahead of the preparation of its Local Development Plan 2 (LDP2) and a summary of the results has now been published online.

The summary shows the majority of people who commented on calls to allocate land in Crook of Devon for up to 50 new houses as well as land in Rumbling Bridge for another unknown number of houses objected to the proposals.

The public appears to have looked more favourably on a call to allocate a site in Blairingone near the village’s primary school for up to 90 houses, however, with the summary stating the majority of people who commented on this proposal were “positive” about the move.

Adding up the responses received about the Rumbling Bridge site, the summary says: “There were 26 individual comments objecting to the proposal, and 38 supportive comments, and there were seven comments which did not express a clear preference.

“In addition there was a petition signed by 44 people which came from 35 separate addresses in the village - this objected to the recent pace of development in the village with concern that further development would destroy the character and density of Rumbling Bridge.”

Turning to comments received about the Crook of Devon site the summary continues: “There were 53 objections to the proposal, and 26 supportive comments (of which eight are qualified and would retract their support if it is only delivering the benefits the council can definitely insist upon).

“There were also six comments which did not express a clear preference.”

Turning finally to the site in Blairingone the summary concludes: “Twenty-seven positive comments were received on the proposal (although six of these are qualified and would retract their support if it is only delivering the benefits the council can definitely insist upon).

“There were also six objections to the proposals, and two comments did not express a clear preference.

“Of the comments from residents of Blairingone, six were supportive, whilst the other submitted that their land should continue to be supported for development in the LDP.”
