School’s outstanding work is praised

- Staff Reporter

Muthill Primary School has received significant praise from education inspectors over its work to boost children’s understanding of citizenship and green issues.

The 63-pupil school was visited by Education Scotland in February and this week reported its findings.

And the team of inspectors reported the school had “outstanding”approaches to learning about sustainability, citizenship and global issues, which had made a“real difference”to children and the village community.

The watchdog’s visitors were also impressed by the links with Ghana, where it has a partner school. Muthill Primary has been re-accredited for its international links up to 2019.

Inspectors also said that, based on two quality indicators they looked at, Muthill Primary was “very good”for both self evaluation for self-improvement and raising attainment and achievement.

In a letter home to parents, inspectors said they found:

Confident and motivated children who are proud of their school and have a genuine voice in making improvements.

Strong partnerships with parents and partners, to the mutual benefit of the school and the local community.

The children of Muthill Primary School are at the heart of the village.

The watchdog’s full response also showed a survey of parents, pupils and staff designed to gauge how the school is doing in terms of making pupils feel safe and supporting them in education.

Staff responses were not published because there are six teachers working at the school and this could identify individuals.

For pupils, the majority of youngsters‘agreed’in response to questions, such as feeling safe at school (73%), having someone to turn to if upset (86%) and being treated fairly by staff (78%).

Some 83% of the 24 parent surveys returned said they would recommend Muthill Primary to others.
