A galaxy of stars in summer programme

Top performers such as Nick Lowe, Jools Holland and Skerryvore are part of a bursting programme of talent lined up for the summer programme from Horsecross Arts.

The renowned acts take their place in a packed schedule of events - from Perth Festival of the Arts to Southern Fried - which will raise the roof of Perth Concert Hall and associated venues stepping in for Perth Theatre over the coming months.

The seasonal set-up was shown off by box office assistant, Laura Pennycook who was plucked from the Perth Concert Hall sales counter to become the face of Perth Theatre, the National Theatre of Scotland’s and Stellar Quine’s new production The 306: Day in associatio­n with Red Note Ensemble.

The much-anticipate­d follow-up to The 306: Dawn, The 306: Day, in Perth’s Station Hotel focuses on the battles faced by the women at home while the Second World War rages.

Foot and mouth drama And Then Come the Nightjars tours village halls and local arts venues from Cumbria to Crieff in April.

Little ones and grownups can cosy into a special tent in Perth Concert Hall for Night Light.

And theatre comes home to Perth Theatre in December with the first in-house production in the newly transforme­d venue – traditiona­l family panto Aladdin – tickets on sale soon.

Top acts including Nick Lowe, Loudon Wainwright III and Rodney Crowell are lining up to perform at the tenth Southern Fried Festival of American roots music in Perth Concert Hall and other city centre venues. An all-star Southern Fried cast joins Andy Fairweathe­r Low and The Hi Riders for Rock ‘n’ Roll Music: The Songs of Chuck Berry.

Southern Fried festival passes go on sale on Friday, April 21 with general ticket sales from Wednesday, April 26.

The popular Celtic Sessions series continues in Perth Concert Hall with Mànran Horsecross box office assistant Laura Pennycook and Elephant Sessions, two young Scottish traditiona­l music acts at the top of their game.

Live Act of the Year 2016 at the MG Alba Scottish Traditiona­l Music Awards, Skerryvore is the first of three Celtic Sessions concerts planned for the Autumn/Winter season.

Perth Concert Hall’s Perth Piano Sundays concludes with Christian Zacharias performing works by Schubert, Beethoven and Schumann. RCS Voices perform two 20th Century masterpiec­es at the culminatio­n of the Lunchtime Concerts series.

Nicola Benedetti opens the Perth Festival of the Arts with an intimate evening recital and ‘in conversati­on with’ in Perth Concert Hall. Further highlights from this year’s packed Perth Festival of the Arts programme include Nigel Kennedy, Jools Holland, The View and Marcus Brigstocke.
