London calling for Perth runners

Perth Road Runners made their mark on the iconic London Marathon.

Six Fair City members lined up alongside a record entry of over 39,000 to complete the 26.2 mile test.

And Martin McEwen was first road runner home in a new personal best time of 3:02:04, followed by Kevin Rogers in 3:05:53.

Stuart Cairns finished in 4:02:24 while Stuart Fraser, who was running his first marathon for local Perth charity PKDS, finished in 4:07:30. Jennifer Gilbert finished in 4:26:08 with Gillian Smith finishing in 4:38:03.

Elsewhere, Simon Grieshaber finished the inaugural Southampto­n Marathon in 3:33:24, coming 12th in his age category and 132nd overall.

This well organised race involved a demanding two-lap route around Southampto­n city centre.

Also on Sunday, three road runners travelled to Edinburgh for the Simply Health Great Edinburgh run, a tough and hilly 10 mile route around the historic city centre, starting and finishing in Holyrood Park.

In warm conditions, Alistair Gudgin finished in 15th position overall in an impressive time of 1:00:13, with Caroline Hogarth and Eleanor Paul both finishing in a time of 1:43:59.

Stephane Reid was the sole club representa­tive at the picturesqu­e Balfron 10k where she gained a new personal best time of 57:19.

Meanwhile, Nina Roberts finished the Running Sisters Tayside 5K race at Crombie Country Park in eighth place out of 92 runners in a time of 25:15, having also ran at Hazlehead Parkrun the previous day in 26:38.

The busy week for club members continued with Fiona Manson and Mike Dales running the 5km Aonach Mor uphill race, which included 500m of ascent. Mike finished in 30th place in 40:39 with Fiona 40th in a time of 43:55.

Finally, Michael McConnell finished first at Perth Parkrun in 16:51, while both Scott Connor and Kirsty Johnston gained new personal best times of 21:31 and 29:20 respective­ly.

Debbie Jackson finished fifth female at Eglinton Parkrun in 24:17 and David MacFadyen ran Tollcross Parkrun in 30:44.

Also on parkrun tourism, Paul Grace crossed the line in 22:13 at Dunfermlin­e while Roy Mitchell finished Tooting in 22:33. Stuart Fraser ran Mile End Park run in 23:42, the day before his marathon.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are club nights with a 6.30pm start. Tuesday night is from Bells Sports Centre and a Thursday is either track sessions at the George Duncan arena or hill intervals at Deuchny wood. Kevin Rogers and Jennifer Gilbert at the London Marathon
