Build on the good vibes

- Super League

Swifts player-manager Ross Gunnion Carnoustie v Jeanfield Swifts Jeanfield Swifts manager Ross Gunnion knows there is a strong positivity surrounding the club at the moment.

The Perth side have pieced together a five game unbeaten run as the push for Super League safety continues.

Swifts travel to face off against Carnoustie Panmure this weekend and boss Gunnion says his players will be going all out to build on recent results.

“I think there is a real sense of determination and positivity at the moment,” he said. “Five games unbeaten at this level is tough to do and we are working hard to keep the run going.

“But we are well aware that we must maintain our focus otherwise it’s easy to slip up. The objective is still to take each game as it comes along. We can’t get distracted with trying to look too far ahead, or elsewhere. We must look to win Saturday’s game first and foremost.

“Carnoustie have performed extremely well in the middle section of the season and are pretty much safe in terms of their league position. The management team have got some excellent young players who are fit and hungry so if we don’t match their energy it will prove a tough encounter.

“That said, we were the better team at home earlier in the season but two mistakes let them get a draw.We must try to minimise any errors. If we do that, we have every chance of getting a win.”

Gunnion, who himself faces a late fitness test after coming off against Penicuik Thistle last week, added: “The hard ground is taking its toll with a few niggles cropping up. But, as happened last week, this leaves the door open for others to come in and stake a place for the run in.”
