Following the creation of two social groups aiming to brighten the lives of local elderly people, a charity which provides tea, cake and company to old folk is appealing for volunteers and guests to launch a third group in Perth.

Contact the Elderly is hoping to find volunteers who could spare a little time once a month, or even just once a year, to make an immeasurable difference.

Volunteer drivers collect one or two guests and accompany them to a tea party, one Sunday afternoon a month, at a volunteer host’s home.

There is currently a waiting list of older people keen for the group to launch and the charity believes there are more people who would benefit and would like to extend the invitation further.

Jennifer Kaney, development officer at Contact the Elderly, said:”Our tea parties across the country are already making the most fantastic difference to lives and we want to share that enjoyment, with a side of tea and cake of course, to more older people at risk of social isolation.”
