Bank card accused is set to go to trial

Special bail conditions have been imposed on a Perth man, accused of stealing a bank card.

Christophe­r Cruickshan­k (42) has been barred from Back Street in Bridge of Earn, or approachin­g or contacting a couple.

The accused, of Robertson Buildings, Barrack Street, will face trial at Perth Sheriff Court on September 4.

An earlier hearing was set for August 17.

It is alleged that he stole an MBA credit card from a house in Bridge of Earn on April 7- and then used it to fraudulent­ly obtain a number of goods from local stores.

This is said to have included £37 worth of items from Sports Direct, at the St Catherine’s Retail Park, sunglasses and outdoor goods, valued at £11, from Tesco in Edinburgh Road, tobacco and bottled water (£14.57) from Malthursts Petroleum in Edinburgh Road, and £19.19 of items from TK Maxx, also in the retail park.

The frauds are said to have taken place on April 7, while Mr Cruickshan­k was subject to a February 27 bail order. explained: “The fire service was called investigat­ions showed was a fire in Cell 61, which was occupied by the accused.

“The accused was heard coughing in his cell and it appeared to be well alight.

“He was the only person in the cell and the fire was subsequent­ly extinguish­ed.”

The damage to the bedding was estimated at £149, according to the prison maintenanc­e manager.

Thompson was jailed for 10 months after he admitted wilfully setting fire to his cell on January 19, 2016.

A solicitor said: “He has a significan­t offending history and he’s realistic what the court’s options are, given the serious nature of the offence.

“He has a number of medical and psychiatri­c difficulti­es.”

Thompson was also given a twomonth jail term after he admitted failing to appear at the Perth court on September 19 last year.
