Kinross set for drama final
Pupils at Kinross High School are getting ready for the final of a national drama competition, Rock Challenge.
RockChallengeseesschoolgroupsusing drama and dance in a bid to encourage young people to enjoy life without alcohol and smoking.
Kinross High School won their regional final, and are now preparing to travel through to the national final in Dundee’s Caird Hall, where they will have to see off competition from all the other regional winnerstotakethenationalRockChallenge title.
Sophia Campbell, the events manager for the Rock Challenge final, said: “The standard of performances this year has been incredible and we are set to have an extremely strong final! It’s so rewarding to see how the hard work and dedication of all the students, staff, parents and local communitiescreatessuchgreatmemories for the young people.
“Qualifying through to the final is such a greataccomplishmentinitself,everyschool thathasgothereshouldbesoproud,Ican’t wait to see all the performances again!”
Kinross High School’s performance tells thestoryoftworefugeefamiliesfleeingthe war in Syria. It follows their journey across Europe, where they end up at the jungle camp in Calais, France.The story, as well as the choreography and costumes, has all been entirely created from scratch by the Kinross pupils, who will now spend their final few weeks rehearsing in preparation for the final on Friday, June 16.
Kinross will compete against the 2016 winners Alness Academy, as well as DingwallAcademyinRoss-shire,Montrose AcademyinAngus,ThursoHighSchooland InvergordonAcademynearInverness,and ahostofAberdeenshireschools,including Fraserburgh Academy,Westhill Academy, Mackie Academy, and Mintlaw Academy.
