College students heading north for showcase

-

A pair of Perth College UHI students are preparing to travel north to Inverness next week to perform at a music showcase.

Cameron Roxburgh (19) and Jamie Bacon (21) from the Goodlyburn campus will be performing at XpoNorth, one of Scotland’s leading creative industries festivals, on Tuesday, June 6.

The two-day event, which is organised by lecturers at the University of the Highlands and Islands, aims to showcase upcoming musical talent in the north of Scotland.

Cameron, who is studying HNC Music, will perform a selection of his own compositions with his friend Callum Cronin accompanying him on bass guitar. Cameron said: “I am looking forward to taking part in this year’s XpoNorth event. The two-day event is something I’ve been keen to attend for a good while now. I have been given the honour to showcase my music, prior to all the other brilliant musicians. That is the thing that excites me the most.”

Cameron will be joined on the night in the Highland capital by fellow student Jamie Bacon from Wick. Jamie, who is currently in his fourth year studying BA (Hons) Applied Music, added: “It’s a massive honour to play this event. Coming from the Highlands, XpoNorth was always the event to play if you wanted to be a fully-fledged musician, so I am incredibly excited to be playing this showcase.”

Alongside Cameron and Jamie, a number of bands featuring former Perth College UHI students will also be performing at XpoNorth, including EMILIE, We Came From Wolves, and Rebel Westerns.

The gig takes place next week at Mad Hatters in Hootananny in Inverness from 8pm, and will showcase a range of upcoming talent from across the UHI campuses.
