Local sport is on offer to all
There are a number of ways to keep active in P&K As well as showcasing some of the finest sporting action our country has ever seen, London 2012 shone a much-deserved spotlight onto the phenomenal achievements of the world’s Paralympians.
Thrilling superhuman feats became the focus of London 2012 with a new found respect built for the athletes taking part.
Since then, there has been an increased awareness surrounding sports and fitness opportunities for people with learning, physical and sensory disabilities.
Of course, it’s not just about athletes aiming for Team GB status. The benefits of taking part in sport and fitness are exactly the same for disabled participants as they are for anyone else – it’s a good way to manage your cardiovascular health, great for maintaining a healthy weight, excellent for mental wellbeing and an ideal way to socialise with your peers.
Some people with disabilities also find the challenge of getting to the venue presents further opportunities. Getting the bus, having the right money, using the changing rooms and overcoming language barriers can help some disabled individuals improve their daily living skills.
