Doo’cot want to build on victories

-

Perth Doo’cot Cricket Club harbour plans to continue the feel good factor when teams return to action this weekend.

Both the first and second squad will be hoping to build on strong performances and morale-boosting victories last time out.

For Perth’s top team, Saturday presents an opportunity to tally up more points with a trip to Forfar to take on Strathmore.

Perth captain Graham Ferguson is confident that his side can again produce the performance required to bag a win.

He said:“We faced a real test last Saturday up at Mannofield and chasing targets of over 200 is not something we have done too often in recent years.

“But we responded in both halves of the match by restricting Mannofield to under 220 and then by the calm way we approached our run chase.

“It was great to see young Curtis Taylor hit his maiden century and it was a really classy knock.

“If I can be critical of the youngster though, he could and should have finished the game unbeaten as he got himself out unnecessarily.

“I am glad to see Strathmore having a resurgence as it’s a friendly club and a great ground to visit.

“I have been playing up there myself since the early 1980’s and so this will probably be one of my last trips up there before I hang up the pads.

“We have a couple of players unavailable this week so another opportunity for others to stake a claim to a place in the first team.”

The 2nd XI will also be in a buoyant mood after their thrashing of Dundee High School last weekend. They welcome Rossie Priory to Doo’cot Park on Saturday.

Elsewhere, the club has now hosted two successful weeks of the ECB All Star Programme, which is aimed at 5-8 year olds interested in learning more about cricket.

More than 20 children are signed up and although both Monday evenings have not been kind weather-wise, that has not deterred the enthusiasm.

Weekend squads are: 1st XI v Strathmore at Lochside on Saturday – From G Ferguson (capt), G Anderson, E Knoesen, S Boyd, T Brown, K Sarral, F Ali, R Pennycook, I Patterson, C Taylor, K Mullangi, P Murray. R McPhee (scorer). Players meet Doo’cot Park 11.15am prompt.

2nd XI v Rossie Priory at Doo’cot Park on Saturday – From D Armstrong (capt), S Cranston, M Rehman, F Ali, A Sutherland, T Rehman, P Murray, T Sarral, K Mullangi, A Blair, A Marx, G Parsons, R Rajcoomar. Players meet Doo’cot Park 12.15pm prompt and food for two.
