Gunnion tells Swifts to sign off on a high

-

Jeanfield Swifts bring their Super League season to a close this weekend — and manager Ross Gunnion plans to finish in style.

The Perth squad, who host Linlithgow Rose at the Riverside, can jump up to 10th in the standings with a victory.

There is little riding on the game, with both teams safe from the drop, but Gunnion insists his players will be up for the challenge.

“It’s not often Linlithgow Rose come to town and you’re relaxed about facing them,”he said.

“But we are determined to put on a performance and finish the season positively.

“Linlithgow have had a very surprising season. Everyone expected them to be challenging for honours, so to find themselves nearer the bottom of the table than the top would have come as a shock.

“They are nonetheless a side packed full of quality, and in Tommy Coyne have one of the most clinical strikers in the league.

“They’ve recently appointed ex-player Mark Bradley as manager and that will definitely give them a lift. He was a fantastic player and has been performing well as a manager.

“I think they’ll get back to the top end with him in charge.”

Perth players will start a month’s break after Saturday’s game before returning for pre-season.

A couple of new additions are expected with Gunnion saying:“In terms of looking ahead to next season, we’ve more or less completed our business, with the exception of one or two still to confirm.”
