The choir sang the Introit “It only takes a spark“and “How deep the Father’s love” during the collection. Musical offerings were played by organist Austin Wilkie and included Diapason Movement in B Minor by John Bennett, Prelude in E Minor by J S Bach and a short Prelude and Fugue in Bb Major by J S Bach. In his sermon, Rev Graham spoke of how Jesus’ resurrection was just the beginning; it was only his mission on earth that had come to an end and it is up to people as the church to pick up and continue where he left off and take his message to all nations. He highlighted how people can often be afraid of letting go and moving to pastures new, which is fine if their witness was still effective, but if not, he suggested that they need to move forward and find new ways to witness and show that Jesus can, and does, make a difference in people’s lives. People should embrace all cultures, as we are all children together in the eyes of God. He said that Jesus came for all people and showed the same love, kindness and compassion to everyone. Even on the cross this was evident when he said “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”. We should be open to God’s spirit to be what Jesus wants us to be. The prayer group will continue on Wednesday, May 31, at 2pm in the Abbey and the Bible study group at 7.15pm will look at Nehemiah chapters eight and nine - all are welcome to both groups.
