Talented Ciaran puts competitors in a spin
Triumphs in twirling
Ciaran Muir (8) from Abernethy at this year’s baton twirling British Open in Preston A boy from Abernethy doesn’t mind being the only male in his baton twirling team.
Ciaran Muir (9) is the only one wearing trousers in the Dardas Diamonds from Glenrothes, but he has had great success over the last few seasons and continues to push harder to achieve more.
His proud mum Sarah said: “He absolutely loves being the only boy in his team and one of only a few boys who attends the competitions.
“He also does ballet and acro and these only have two boys in the class but he’s not phased at all. He just says ‘think of all the girlfriends I have!’
“Our son’s been twirling since he could walk and competed in his first competition when he was 14 months old.”
Recently the Dunbarney Primary School pupil has attended several large baton twirling championships and has done extremely well.
In March he attended the GBBTA spring championships in Blackpool as part of Fair City Baton Twirlers where, for the third year running, he retained his Tots Freestyle Champion title.
In April he travelled with his team Dardas Diamonds to Crawley for the annual British Baton Twirling Sports Association (BBTSA) national championships.
He was the only twirler from the local area to compete and was helped by the sponsorship of Perth company Tan International, based on the Shore Road.
It was a great day and he achieved National Champion in Solo Twirl Juvenile 1 with 19 others vying for the title. Ciaran also came away with three second places and a seventh.
The flexible fingered youngster has just returned from his first BBTSA British Open championships in Preston, with his teammates and coach Alanna Dardas.
There he achieved an amazing second place for Freestyle in the extremely tough Juvenile section.
His big competitions are over now until February, but he will continue to compete in small competitions, the next being a friendly in Bell’s Sports Centre on Sunday this week.
