Crematorium memorial gardens affected by work
Families invited to book appointment to pay respects
Visitors to Perth Crematorium during its refurbishment and road building period are being told that access to parts of the Gardens of Remembrance will be restricted over the coming weeks and months.
That could mean some loved ones’ memorials could be out of bounds at certain times.
Perth and Kinross Council has asked anyone planning to visit the memorial site between 9am and 5pm weekdays to make appointments to ensure that they can get safe access.
Works are currently under way on two schemes affecting the city’s crematorium, with both a refurbishment of facilities there and the new A9/A85 link road taking shape.
The crematorium’s memorial service facility was closed at the beginning of June, with a full closure due in September. It will fully reopen in early 2018.
PKC says there will be construction traffic using the driveway during the normal working week and there will only be limited public car parking available at the Crematorium.
Staff at the crematorium are being based in temporary accommodation on site during the building refurbishment and road works.
As construction works will generally not be undertaken at weekends, the areas of the Gardens not fenced off by the contractors will be open to members of the public without appointment, and visitors are advised to observe and respect the safety signage and information displayed within the grounds.
A council spokesperson said: “When visiting the crematorium and gardens, visitors should be aware that changes have been made to the entrance on Crieff Road and driveway as part of the A9/A85 road works.
“The main crematorium car park is also closed and limited public car parking space has been made available and is signed on the left hand side of the entrance driveway near the building. Visitors can also turn via the signposted one way system in operation at the car park area.
“For visitors who require access to water, a new water point has been installed at the Summer Garden, outside the construction areas.” Works during the next phase between September and November 2017 are likely to have contractors also working
Ongoing work at Perth Crematorium at weekends. This will mean public access will during office hours on weekdays, again with appointments.
The Book of Remembrance is now at North Inch Community Campus Library, Gowans Terrace, Perth, PH1 5BF during opening hours, where it will remain until the crematorium is re-opened.
