Kind support group help to boost Macmillan coffers

Helen Laing of the Macmillan Auchterard­er fundraisin­g group Hundreds of pounds were donated to Macmillan when the Auchterard­er Macmillan Cancer Support fundraisin­g group went out on the Lang Toon’s High Street.

The June 10 collection brought in £401 and delighted vice-chair Christine Steele said:“The Auchterard­er community is always very generous and the money raised will help to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.”

In addition to the success in Auchterard­er, the group are also delighted to report that committee member Helen Laing collected £483 during her door-to-door collection in Blackford.

The group’s next event will be a Quiz Night on September 9 in the community church hall.

Tables of four will cost £50 – or £12.50 per person – and include a drink and tapas.

Ailsa Corbett, fundraisin­g manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Tayside said:“I am delighted that the Auchterard­er Fundraisin­g Group have had such a successful start to fundraisin­g this year.”

In 2016 Macmillan provided grants to people living with cancer in Auchterard­er totalling almost £1500, to help support with travel costs to and from hospital as well as rising heating bills as a result of side effects from treatment. Macmillan assists hundreds of people across the region Local benefits advisors were also able to help more than 130 people affected by cancer across Perthshire to unlock in excess of £1.6million of benefits that they were entitled too.
