Two men die in separate road crashes
Coupar Angus teenager and 51-year-old Forfar man named
Two men have died in a separate crashes involving venhicles on the region’s roads at the weekend.
The first incident happened on the A923 Dundee to Coupar Angus Road around 2.30am on Saturday.
The tragic victim of that single vehicle incident was identified as 18-year-old Billy Haggart from Coupar Angus.
Mr Haggart was taken by paramedics to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after the collision, but died from his injuries.
Four others were injured in the incident.
The road was then closed for seven hours for police investigations.
A police spokesperson said: “Enquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are ongoing and Tayside division would appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist officers with their enquiries to call 101.
“As with all sudden deaths a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Just hours later a motorcyclist died following a collision near Blair Atholl.
The biker was yesterday named by Police Scotland as 51-year-old Neil Cownie from Forfar.
The road, which is popular with motorcyclists during the summer, was closed for some time over the weekend for investigations and reopened at 5.30am on Sunday. Police Scotland has since urged motorcyclists and car drivers to take extra care during summer outings.
The two deaths come as there were a number of other road traffic collisions across Perthshire over the weekend.
One man was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary on Sunday after a car left the road and crashed into a field at 5.51am on the A85 near Comrie Croft. His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
And a motorist had to be cut free from a car following a two-vehicle crash on the A92 one-mile south of Guildtown at 4.20pm the same day
The driver was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary with minor injuries, with another motorist and a number of passengers leaving the scene unhurt but shaken.
