Options laidout forNorth Muirton

-

A further public consultation on the future of North Muirton and Balhousie primary schools is to be held this week.

North Muirton Primary School is set to hold a dropin meeting on Wednesday to discuss different options for the future of the school, including proposals to potentially build a new school to replace the existing building.

At the meeting, members of the public will be invited to have their say on three different options for the two city schools. This comes after a public meeting was held at Balhousie Primary School on Thursday last week.

One of the options on the table could see Balhousie school closed, with all pupils moved to a new, larger North Muirton school.

A further option considers continuing to keep both schools open, but still consider building a new North Muirton school.

A third option would see the unused space at Balhousie school used for other Perth and Kinross Council services, but would still include proposals to build a new school at North Muirton.

Currently the capacity at North Muirton is 290, with last year’s school roll sitting at 227.

At Balhousie, which has a total capacity of 224, the number of pupils sat at 113.

Both school buildings were given a rating of ‘C’ by the council’s lifelong learning committee, described as “poor, showing major defects and/or not operating adequately” in terms of their build structure.
