Lang Toon work to solve repeated power cut problem
Auchterarder is to get £375,000 worth of improvements to its electricity network.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) are to replace around 1km of low-voltage underground cables in High Street between Rossie Place and Ruthven Street to improve the reliability of the service. There have been repeated power cuts to the area over the past three years.
The works were due to begin yesterday (Monday) and are expected to be completed by March.
Works will not take place over Remembrance weekend, the town’s Christmas lights switch-on or from December 20 until January 10.
During the work there will be temporary traffic lights and restrictions to on-street parking.
Graeme Stewart from SSEN said: “We’re investing in the network to ensure our customers have the power they need, both now and in the future.
“Letters will be delivered to homes and businesses to inform customers of our plans and we will continue to engage with the community to ensure their feedback is heard and considered as the project progresses.
“We want to take every practical step to minimise disruption and discuss any specific requirements residential customers and businesses may have.”
He continued: “Whilst we recognise there may be some local disruption during the works, over the long term our investment will provide a more reliable supply of electricity to our customers, greatly minimising future disruption by improving the reliability of this circuit.”
A drop-in meeting will be held on Thursday from 10am until 8pm in the Aytoun Hall to give more information.
