Songs and music of WW1 in charity show

- Peter Drummond-Hay

Inchyra Arts Club is hosting ‘Far,Far from Ypres’ on Thursday, November 9.

This community charity show is a commemoration of the centenary of the First World War in music, poetry and song.

Directed by Tobias Reid and with musical direction by retired piano teacher Lorne Heriot-Maitland, the all-local amateur cast is aiming to make audience members think, laugh, cry and sing along in what promises to be a very special and memorable evening.

Loosely telling the story of the war through the eyes of an everyman from any town or village in Scotland, the show has been adapted to reflect local elements from an original script written by Ian McCalman of the McCalmans.

It features well and lesser-known songs from the music hall era and more reflective offerings from contemporary songwriters as well as the famous trench songs and poems.

All proceeds will go to the three chosen charities Poppyscotland, The Black Watch Castle and Museum and All Saints in Glencarse.

Tickets priced at £10 are available in person from the St Madoes Store, by email to farfarfromyprestickets@ gmail.com or by calling 07985517760.

Doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.

Seating is unreserved and there is a licensed bar at the intimate venue on the outskirts of Perth.
