European tour dates for Fair City punk rockers

-

Auld Hat - New Heids play Comrie’s Rural Hall on January 20.

The four-piece folk group features top fiddle player Pete Clark, accordionist Gregor Lowrey, and songwriter and vocalist Ian Bruce and Auchterarder’s Fraser Bruce - who has been involved in folk music since he was a teenager and devised the concept.

In the 1980s Fraser sang with his brother Ian as Mrs Bruce’s Boys.

Auld Hat - New Heids is described as a show which remembers the days of folk clubs in the 1960s and 70s.

The evening is set to feature plenty of humour and fun and singalong songs backed by excellent musicianship.

The group played a sell-out gig at the prestigious Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow in 2017, and also performed at the Edinburgh Film Festival the same year.

In July 2017, the band released its first CD as a group ‘Auld Hat - New Heids Volume One’.

Members can list more than 30 CD releases between them once their respective CVs are merged.

The lads have also supported acts on many more.

The gig starts at 7.30pm and it’s £10 per ticket. Members of a Perth punk band have announced details of their first European tour ... writes Ross Gardiner.

Following on from a gig in Paris last year, Fair City rockers Brainglue are heading across the Channel once again to play dates in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The high-energy four-piece will take to the stage at Eernegem near Bruges on March 9 and Gouda near Rotterdam on March 11.

And guitarist and vocalist Ewan Temperley said can’t wait for the tour to come around.

He told the PA: “We were not long back from Le Pop in Paris when we tried to get another trip lined up. The gig there was really good – it was absolutely mobbed.

“Where we played was right in the centre of Paris, and the venue had three tiers which was incredible.

“Our manager got us booked in for the dates in Belgium and Holland. We were planning on going to Poland too but the costs made it difficult.

“We’ll be playing alongside local bands over there which will be great. I’ve been to Amsterdam before, but neither of the stops so I’m really looking forward to it.”

The band – which also comprises Mark Buck-Barrett (guitar/vocals), Ruairidh Hanna (bass) and Liam Williamson (drums) – have high hopes for 2018, and have set the release of their first album and more festival appearances in their sights.

Ewan added: “We first got together about a year ago, but we did nothing until June.

“We’ve started looking at getting an album sorted.

“Off the back of the Paris gig, we have been speaking with a French record label and we’re getting around 600 made on vinyl, and we’re probably going to record it around March-April time in the studio in Edinburgh.

“We started work on the first single last month, which should be out in April too.

“We’ve had a lot of gigs lately in Perth and Dundee, and supporting The View at Birnam Arts was brilliant.

“This year we’re looking to play more festivals. Last year we did Unholy in Leicester and we’re booked back in for it again this year.

“Festivals are always fun to do, but we’re looking forward to the album as well. We’ve had a bit of a break in January but we’re back to writing and recording.
