The deadline is looming for young performers wanting to enter this year’s Perform in Perth competition.

The annual fortnight-long festival of music, speech and dance is set to return to the Fair City from Saturday, March 3 until Saturday, March 17.

Those wishing to enter this year’s competition have until Friday, January 19 to do so. Syllabuses with a list of all the classes and entry criteria can be picked up from Concorde Music Shop on Perth’s Scott Street.

This year’s competition will feature a number of classes over a range of disciplines, including country dancing, public speaking and Bible reading, composition, pipe bands and choirs.

There will also be band and solo performance competitions over a number of instruments, including brass, woodwind, percussion, strings and voice.

The large bands and orchestras are set to take to the stage in Perth Concert Hall during the 2018 festival, with all country dancing classes taking place in the Glenearn Community Campus on Glenearn Road. The remaining classes will then be split between the Soutar Theatre at AK Bell Library on York Place, St-Leonards-in-the-Field Church on Marshall Place, and the North Inch Community Campus on Gowans Terrace.

Those who enter this year’s Perform in Perth then have until Thursday, February 1 to submit their own choices for the competition, with Thursday, February 8 as the final date to hand in adjudicators and accompanists copies.

This year the president and music secretary will be Eileen Waterston, with Christine Munro as vicepresident and entries secretary. Vida Low will take on the role of chairman with Mairi Stirling as vice-chairman, and honorary treasurer is Bob Scott. Lynsey Paterson and Alison Duthie will both take on the role of secretary for the 2018 Perform in Perth.
