When will Broxden work start?

Calls for answers on upgrade

- Rachel Clark

A Perth councillor has written to the Scottish Government demanding to know when works will begin on Broxden roundabout.

Last month, Transport Scotland confirmed they would be starting scoping works on the busy roundabout with the view to eventually making improvements.

Councillor Willie Wilson has now penned a letter to transport minister Humza Yousaf asking when the promised project is due to begin.

In the letter, seen by the PA, the Lib Dem representative highlights the project is already running late, with the original deadline for the work being the end of 2017.

Last month, Transport Scotland said this would now be spring 2018.

The letter asks the transport minister to explain why there has been a delay, and asks SNP politician Mr Yousaf to provide a detailed timetable for the works going forward. Wilson Councillor Willie

Cllr Wilson also asks for detailed costs on any upgrade works to be shared, and asks for confirmation of when the works are expected to be completed.

In addition, Cllr Wilson’s correspondence calls on Mr Yousaf to confirm whether or not adding new lanes to both the Glasgow-bound and Inverness-bound traffic is being considered as part of Transport Scotland’s study.

So far the study is expected to look at Broxden’s lane geometry, land acquisition and the environmental impact, as well as the costs and a timescale for any upgrade works to Broxden.

The City South representative said: “I have pointed out to the transport minister that this scoping work is already running late - it was due to be completed by the end of 2017 and now we find out that the necessary work has not even started.

“This is a disgraceful situation.”

He continued: “Motorists both local and those travelling further afield deserve to know when improvements are likely to happen. These delays are unacceptable.

“There is already widespread frustration at the long queues on the bypass both north and south of the roundabout. In addition, motorists approaching to the west are suffering increasingly long delays at getting through to their destination.”

Cllr Wilson wrote to Mr Yousaf last year to draw attention to what he called the “growing frustration” of motorists using the roundabout.
