Fit again Erynn set to shine

-

Basketball prospect Erynn Legge is determined to put injuries behind her and shine in Spain this year.

The former Perth High School pupil has returned to the court following a stop-start opening to her career with CB Nou Esplugues in Barcelona.

Erynn began her Spanish journey in the summer of last year and continues to harbour aspirations of playing the sport professionally.

“My first few months in Barcelona have been amazing, I’m loving it,” Erynn explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“Being able to be involved in this opportunity is great and I am so thankful for it.

“I have really enjoyed being part of my new club CB Nou Esplugues, the club has been so welcoming to me.

“I also help with English classes in a local primary where the staff and pupils are so kind and I love being able to help the kids.

“Unfortunately I picked up an ankle injury in my first week abroad which left me unable to play for three or four months. It was very frustrating when it first happened as I was so excited to get ready for the season ahead but everyone was great and so supportive.

“I went on to receive daily treatment in Barcelona to speed up my recovery. During this time I was still fully involved with my teams and training. My injury made me determined to reach my target date of being fit to play which Erynn Legge

was our U18 tournament at the start of January.

“When I got told I was on target for this I was so happy.”

Erynn admits making the transition to Spanish life was difficult initially but now the bustling city has become a home from home.

“I’ve found that the standard of basketball in Spain is so much higher than what I am used to,”she said.

“It is of a much faster pace and technical ability.

“Having the opportunity to play here and train at such a high standard and intensity is going to help me improve as a player so much.

“Getting used to living away from home was hard at first.

“I was not used to living away as I have only been away from home for a few weeks at most with basketball trips.

“The times we do things here took a few weeks to get used to as everything is done later at night here, like eating.

“Now I am used to it I am loving it. The area I live in is beautiful and it takes only a little time for me to get into Barcelona city itself, where I can see all the amazing sights in the city.

“If I could get the opportunity to continue to play abroad and even professionally it would be amazing.

“I feel playing over here is my best option to have a chance of doing so.”
