Perth sisters on a championship roll
Lucy and Chloe Grant with their karting trophies Perth sisters Lucy and Chloe Grant led the way at the annual East of Scotland Kart Club prize-giving.
At an event held in Dundee to celebrate the 2017 season, they were presented with awards for winning their individual championships.
Cherrybank Inn barmaid Lucy (20), who races in the Senior MSA category, had finished second overall in both 2014 and 2015.
So after a year away from the track, she was delighted to return to racing at ESKC and finally clinch that elusive championship.
Oakbank primary seven pupil Chloe (11), who moved from the Cadet class to Mini Max category in 2017, triumphed in the IKR Championship for drivers without a Motor Sport Association (MSA) licence.
It was a closely fought championship over the year, with a total of 24 races contested over six race weekends.
Going into the final round, only 14 points separated Chloe from Harvey Branch of Dunfermline in second place.
Chloe had led the championship from round one but with 25 points for a win and 100 points up for grabs on the final race weekend Chloe consolidated her lead.
She was also presented with the“most improved” Mini Max driver award for 2017.
The Oakbank sisters are both involved with Susie Wolff’s“Dare to Be Different”initiative and have represented D2BD as “Racing Role Models”at events held at Knockhill and Raceland. D2BD are committed to inspiring, connecting and showcasing female talent in the motor sport industry.
The girls were thrilled to be invited recently to become members of the BritishWomens’Racing Drivers Club (BWRDC).
The new season of Kart racing kicks off at the ESKC in Crail on March 4 with an MSA race and the first round of Club Championship will be held on April 1.
There will be racing for Cadets, MiniMax and Senior Rotax. And if there is enough interest, Junior Rotax and KZ classes may also be included.
