Finish line in sight for marathon man Sam He’s run 10 races in 10 months

Barcelona was Sam’s latest run An Auchterarder man has almost powered his way through a 262-mile charity challenge.

Car salesman Sam Miller (34) has been running a marathon a month for 10 months since September to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise, and only has three races to go.

The former RAF man, who is preparing to head to London this weekend, told the PA: “I have completed three marathons locally since December, mainly because at this time of year there aren’t many official ones over winter.

“This included a 26.2 mile route around Auchterarder before Christmas, one around Perth and finishing with February’s 18 laps of the North Inch.

“That was probably the most brutal as it was soul-destroying, but I had my friend run the last five miles with me to get me through, as well as my dad and other friend brought down snacks and drinks to keep my morale up which was really appreciated.

“In March, I had a trip to Barcelona where I was supported by my brother who ran it as well. My other friends came over with us and celebrated our success from a local pub - where we met them soon after.

“I have the London Marathon this weekend and my wife is coming down as well. I think she is more interested in the shopping than the running, but she has been really supportive and allowed me to disappear for weekends and a few hours in the evening during the week to keep up training.

Sam, who has already raised £5600, has run in Barcelona and Istanbul, and the final finish line is now in sight.

“My times have improved by about half an hour, but I’d still like to get under the four hour mark by the time my final race, the Strathearn Marathon in Comrie, comes around in June.

“I’ve only recently picked up my first small niggle, in my knee, which has hampered training a little bit.

“I’ve thought about different options about what I’ll do after marathon number 10, from setting fire to my running shoes to throwing a massive party. Either way, a cold lager won’t be too far away.

“I keep saying that after number 10 is done that will be it, but the buzz you get from crossing the finish line and sense of achievement you get is something that has to be experienced to be believed.

“I’ll no doubt sign up for another somewhere down the line- but certainly not every four weeks.”
