Dale Winton, who died on Wednesday The passing of TV’s Dale Winton has been mourned by many - among them animal crazy Abbie Withers, who once supplied him with a massive boa constrictor.

The popular presenter ofshows like Supermarket Sweep and Pets Win Prizes was found dead at his home on Wednesday.

It ended a colourful career in radio and television.

Abbie, from Scone, spent the 1990s getting animals for television appearances.

“Dale Winton was an absolute sweetheart,” she said of the camp comic presenter.

“I can’t remember which of his shows it was for, or why he needed it, but I came in with a massive boa constrictor for the filming.

“The snake was really strong. It took four men to hold it up and I was right by him when the cameras rolled, holding its head up.

“It was all smiles as I sat watching him in make-up, getting his face Tangoed ready for the show.”

Abbie escaped unscathed from the giant boa constrictor incident and has since returned to Perthshire.

She has kept her link with animals and is currently rearing orphaned lambs in her front room, paints pet portraits and is about to start supplying raw meat foods for Big County cats and dogs under the name Natural Nourishment for Pets.
