PKC praised by care inspectors
Council’chief ‘overwhelmed’ by excellent report
Outstanding staff and leadership, delivering high quality services, and innovative practice for children and young people in Perth and Kinross have been recognised by the Care Inspectorate in a report published this week.
Tuesday’s report on services for children and young people delivered by community planning partners in Perth and Kinross, found that staff and leaders are committed to driving improvement and delivering positive outcomes to support the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people at all stages of their lives, from prenatal care right through to adulthood.
For the nine quality indicators considered by the inspectors Perth and Kinross was awarded two ‘excellent’ ratings, for planning and improving services, and for leadership of improvement and change. The remaining indicators included six ‘very good’ ratings, and one ‘good’.
The inspectors highlighted a number of particular strengths, making a positive difference for children and young people in Perth and Kinross, including use of data to support decision making and services enabling children, young people and families to access the right support.

exceptional leadership and an extremely strong and ambitious vision for child protection and children’s services in Perth and Kinross.
Perth and Kinross Council chief executive Bernadette Malone said: “I am overwhelmed by this report. It shows real significant, collective achievement.
“This is the third report in 10 years and we have sustained this level of quality. This is testament to the outstanding commitment and sheer dedication of our staff. I’m really proud. We are the model for Scotland when it comes to child
protection in the community.
“The joint inspection report highlights very effective partnership working, and shows positive improvements in the wellbeing of children and young people delivered by excellent professional and strategic leaders, and passionate, committed and innovative staff.
“Importantly, the inspection team identified the strength of our culture and the quality of relationships as key in enabling staff to perform at their very best for children and families.”
