Enterprise month means business

- Staff reporter

Event organisers Businesses are being urged to get involved in a monthlong programme of events to support and inspire them.

Perth and Kinross Business and Enterprise Month (PKBEM) will run from May 1 to 31, with a full programme of day and evening events in city, town and rural settings to embrace several sectors of the district’s economy.

Relocated from its usual November slot on the calendar, the area’s annual business focus is hosted by a partnership involving Elevator, Business Gateway, Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses, Perth and Kinross Council, Scottish Enterprise and Perth College UHI.

The chairman of the steering group is Andrew Burnett, director of operations with Elevator and Business Gateway.

He said: “PKBEM has traditionally been organised and delivered by the core partners but for 2018 we decided to invite other organisations to get involved and host relevant workshops, seminars, presentations and events aimed at addressing issues pertinent to today’s businesses and the local economy.”

In addition to adopting a springtime slot and inviting other businesses and organisations to organise and host events, PKBEM also has a new website at www. pkbem.co.uk, allowing people to book events online and sign up to host business gatherings.

Andrew said: “While there is already a fairly extensive programme on offer, we would be happy to take on board any event ideas that businesses or organisations want to put forward.

“Perth and Kinross businesses can help offer a greater diversity of events and help identify what our local businesses and our economy need in the way of information, support and guidance.

“Our objective is to inspire and educate local businesses and entrepreneurs through a programme of engaging and relevant events.”

Organisers hope to welcome attendees from an early business start-up stage through to longestablished companies with a growing workforce.

Companies and organisations already scheduled to host events include Tayscreen (tourism business briefing, Dunkeld), East of Scotland Food and Drink Network (showcase, Perth), Co-operative Development Scotland (employee ownership, Perth) and Growbiz (variety of rural town events).

The PKBEM core partners will also stage events.

Andrew said: “We are also delighted to have an event hosted by Developing the Young Workforce, focusing on the relevance of 2018 issues and the needs of our future employers and personnel.”

Anyone interested in hosting something during the month-long event can sign up online or contact Ross Cairney at Elevator by emailing ross@elevatorUK.com or on 07741 313981.
