LOGAN HEADING FOR THE RIVERSIDE

Foxhall Park gaffer to become assistant at Jeanfield

- Matthew Gallagher

Logan McConachie will bid an emotional farewell to Coupar Angus Junior Football Club at the end of the season.

The Foxhall Park gaffer has agreed to become the assistant manager at Perth’s Super League side Jeanfield Swifts.

McConachie took over the reins at North Division Coupar two years ago and was believed to be one of the youngest bosses in Scottish football.

Now his work has caught the attention of Swifts manager Ross Gunnion and the Riverside committee.

When McConachie walks through the Foxhall exit for a final time, he will do so with a heavy heart and memories to last a lifetime.

“Coupar have been my first step into Junior football, so the club will always have a special place in my heart,” he told the Perthshire Advertiser this week.

“We’ve had some great results at times and I’ve built some great relationships with the players and staff.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge at Jeanfield.

“The club have an excellent grassroots system and have exciting developments both on and off the field.

“Jeanfield are a well-run and established club that have high expectations of their staff and players.

“To be part of that culture and ethos is very exciting.

“I’m really keen to learn off other coaches and when the opportunity came to work with Ross and the guys, I knew that it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“I’m doing my UEFA A licence this year too, so the move has come at a perfect time to share some new content too.”

Swifts manager Gunnion is excited to welcome McConachie to the Riverside for next season.

“We’re delighted to have convinced Logan to join us,” he said.

“Eric Fleming will be taking a step back from coaching so we had a gap and I’ve been very impressed with the way Logan has coached and developed players at every team he’s been at.

“We talked a lot about the style of play and ideas and Logan shares the same values as us.

“We want an attractive brand of football with the best players Perth has to offer and he will continue to help us develop on and off the park.

“The young squad we currently have will benefit hugely from having a UEFA A license coach working with them.

“In the three years our current coaching staff have been working with players, we’ve seen three move on and establish themselves in senior football.

“We are now looking to give more young players that platform to show what they can do.”

Before McConachie departs, he is determined to finish on a positive note with Coupar.

That starts with a home game against Lochore Welfare on Saturday afternoon.

“We’ve set some targets this week. We know in reality the results haven’t went our way this season,” McConachie said.

“We’ve had some excellent performances this year and the teams in the North Division are all wary when Coupar Angus visit.

“We’re hoping to get one over on Lochore this weekend after their 1-0 victory over us at their ground last year.”
