Annabel pipes up to entertain patients
Patients in Perth Royal Infirmary were treated to a special bagpipe performance from Pitlochry schoolgirl Annabel Charlton.
The 12-year-old, who has played bagpipes since the age of eight with the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, visited patients in ward three and Tay ward to play a number of Scottish tunes and even took requests from patients.
S1 pupil Annabel visited the hospital with her mum, head of nursing for medicine for the elderly, Caitlin Charlton, as part of Take Your Child to Work Day.
She had earlier spent the morning shadowing a bagpipe tutor at a local school.
“The patient and staff feedback was really positive and Annabel was able to play a few requested tunes,”said Caitlin.“It really brightened up the day for some of our patients and you could see them enjoying the traditional Scottish music.
“Annabel was looking forward to visiting the wards. I think it is really important that young people can find out more about the NHS and how

Annabel, who attends Pitlochry High School, said:“The patients seemed to enjoy my playing and I enjoyed playing for them too. There was a lot of Highland dancing in the corridors of the wards and some happy tears too.
“I enjoyed my day and I was happy to cheer up the patients’days. Thank you to all the staff for supporting me but especially Avril from Tay ward and Jackie from the discharge hub.”
