Both Milnathort Primary School and Portmoak Primary School have been awarded “digital school” status, for excellence in digital technology and learning.

At a ceremony in Fife’s Tulliallan Primary School, attended by the minister for further education, higher education and science Shirley-Anne Somerville, the two schools were recognised for continually seeking to do more with technology in the classroom and demonstrated best practice in trying to get the most out of digital learning.

Sandra McColgan, head teacher at Milnathort Primary School, said: “We’re thrilled that our staff and learners have been recognised and accredited with this prestigious award.

“At Milnathort Primary School we aspire to deliver a curriculum that is innovative and creative - staff and learners work hard to break down barriers to learning and be as curious as possible, embracing new methods and technologies.

“Mr James Miller, class teacher has been instrumental in the success of instilling digital learning across Milnathort Primary School in terms of inspiring his own learners and colleagues.”

Louise Gordon, head teacher of Portmoak Primary School, also said: “Our digital leaders have really embraced the digital schools award within your school.

“They are a real support to staff and work in all of our classes to ensure that all of our learners can experience high quality learning experiences using digital technology. They are ably led by Mrs Mosson, our P2/3 teacher, who inspired us all with her enthusiasm for all things digital.”

The two schools picked up their awards last week, and are now leading the way in Scotland for digital education. It is hoped a third of all schools will be accredited with this status by 2019.
