David McMillan celebrates netting his first goal for the club David McMillan is ready to prove his worth at St Johnstone after netting his first goal for the club at the weekend.

The Irishman joined the Perth side in January but has been out of action for over three months after injuring his hamstring on his debut.

Formerly of Dundalk, McMillan returned to action in style on Saturday to score a clever header to round off a memorable 5-1 victory against Motherwell.

Now the 29-year-old has his sights set on bagging a few more goals in the remaining two games of this campaign.

“It has been a tough spell so it was great for me to get back onto the pitch,” McMillan explained.

“It was a good game for me to come on in because the lads did so well to be four up at that stage.

“I felt there was an opportunity there to get a goal and thankfully I did. It was a great ball in by Richard Foster, which gave me the chance.

“It was a good move and as soon as Fozzy got the ball, I knew I was free at the back post. If he put a deep cross in I had a great chance of scoring.

“I felt when I headed it that it was an easy chance that I couldn’t miss but, watching it back, it was maybe a little harder than that.

“I knew there were only going to be three games left by the time I was back playing. So I wanted to get my first goal in one of those.

“Getting the goal allows me to settle in and try do well in the final two games of the season.

“It’s unfortunate for me that the season is ending so quickly now that I am finally back fit.

“It is great to get back now because it gives me the platform to get some more minutes and remind everyone why Tommy brought me here.

“Hopefully I can score a couple more and then look forward to next season.”

McMillan is set to start this evening’s penultimate Premiership game of the season away at Hamilton.

“We had an artificial pitch at Dundalk so it shouldn’t cause me too many problems,” McMillan said. “I am used to playing on it.

“It’s the first time I will have faced Hamilton so I am looking forward to it.

“Every game now for me is something new. Every team is one that I haven’t played before.

“Hamilton were defeated by

“We put a lot into getting David McMillan signed and for him to get a goal after being out for so long was great.

“He won’t be really match fit until next season but that was a big thing for him to get his first goal.

“And Ali McCann showed a lot of maturity for an 18-year-old. He was strong and used the ball really well.”

Wright was also impressed with the showing from loan duo Matty Willock and George Williams.

“Willock and Williams are getting better,”the Perth boss said.

“Matty went to Utrecht and didn’t get many games. When you’re getting loan players there is always a bedding-in period because they haven’t played a lot of football.

“The two of them have been getting better and better and contributed a lot on Saturday.

“We’ve seen him improve in training and we’re delighted with him and George.”

Saints head for Hamilton tonight for the club’s second last fixture of the season.

Wright will not be tinkering with his squad too much as he targets a winning end to the campaign in the battle for seventh place.

“We’ve got a few bumps and bruises and obviously Steven MacLean won’t play,”Wright said.“David McMillan will start.

“I don’t want to change it too much because we want to win the game.

“Chris Millar will be involved on Saturday.”
