Young people to take over Perth Theatre

Young people in Perth will be taking over the city’s theatre for the Diverse CiTay festival.

As part of the Scottish Government’s Year of Young People 2018, young people between the ages of eight and 26 will be taking over the newly renovated theatre on Saturday, June 23, with a series of free workshops and activities.

Some of the highlights of the day include rap music, technical theatre and stage make-up workshops, Let’s Dance sessions for young people with disabiliti­es, and a series of workshops and performanc­es from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Horsecross Arts, the creative body behind Perth Theatre, has been working with two young interns to make this event a reality.

One of the interns, Ava Broughton-Stuart, said:“It’s an amazing opportunit­y. We get to create the event that we want and we know we’ll enjoy.”

Alongside this, Horsecross Arts’sister venue Perth Concert Hall will be hosting Dance Move Groove, a high-impact, energetic dance show staged by students from Craigie-based JGN Dance Attic.
