Big gala day of fun at Bankfoot

- Ross Gardiner

Saturday, May 19 will see the fifth and biggest Bankfoot Community Gala since the idea for the event was re-kindled in 2014.

Simon Yearsley, chair of the Bankfoot Community Gala Committee said:“It’s a wonderful, familyfocused fun day, which never fails to bring out the whole community.

“This year it’s bigger than ever, with dozens of market stalls, craft stalls, bric-a-brac, bouncy castles, bungee runs, great local food, mini-Highland games, kid’s and parents’races with great cash prizes, mini-train rides, the now-famous Bankfoot Bike Races, sumo-suit wrestling, beer tent, live performances from local musicians, and loads of other fun attractions .... the list goes on!”

The gala starts at noon with a gathering outside The Atholl Hotel, from where you can follow the Gala Parade and Pipe Band around to Coronation Park where the gala takes place, and runs until about 4pm.

Simon added:“We’re really excited about one of the new events, the best-dressed pet, which will be judged at the start of the gala and promises to be a great fun. So start thinking now how you can make your lovely pet look even more lovely!

“We’ve also got the Bankfoot Gala raffle, which has been really well-supported by a whole host of local businesses. The whole of the Gala Committee are delighted with the support we’ve got this year from local businesses in terms of sponsorship and donation of some fantastic raffle prizes, and it just goes to show how a community can pull together to have fun, family-focused day.

“We’ll close the gala with the amazing kids’ tug-o-war, which last year saw over 40 young people heaving and straining in a fairly chaotic but fun feat of strength, whilst parents and supporters looked on with a mix of pride, encouragement and laughter!” The Bankfoot Gala always draws in crowds
