Fracking over loads of wind turbines

-

Dear editor, Nicola Sturgeon has claimed that there is “overwhelming” support in Scotland for her anti-fracking policy.

How does she work that out? Nicola claimed overhwelming support for Scottish independence before the referendum. She was wrong. Scots threw the SNP bid for independence out of the window.

Fracking is in full swing in several countries, notably the United States. Even the politically correct, wishywashy English establishment are allowing fracking to take place.

I’d rather have what has already proven to be a perfectly environmentally safe procedure - fracking than have our lovely Scottish countryside defaced by thousands of windmills which cannot even guarantee reliable, all-year-round electricity supplied, yet cost us a fortune in subsidies.

Oh for some political leaders in Scotland with some common sense and with no politically correct, idealistic axe to grind! George K McMillan Mount Tabor Avenue Perth

Dear editor, Faith leaders across Scotland have urged the Scottish Parliament to pass a “strong and ambitious Climate Change Act” to save the world’s poorest people from further devastation.

I think they will need “divine intervention” since Scotland has a miniscule 0.13 per cent of global emissions.

Only a handful of countries have legally-binding Climate Change Acts - the other 190 only made promises.

These faith leaders need to get out of their cloisters and see the world as it is not what they want it to be.

A good start would be to China with 28 per cent of global emissions and India with six per cent and both are rapidly increasing their emissions.

No legally-binding Climate Change Acts for them.

America, with 16 per cent of global emissions, refused to sign the Paris Agreement but is has dramatically reduced emissions by using shale gas instead of coal.

Meanwhile the rest of the world burns fossil fuels.
