Fun and fairytales from the musical storytellers

-

Breadalbane Academy parents have scored a major coup with their enticing line-up for an end-of-term fundraising event.

Musician Foy Vance, who has supported Ed Sheeran and Elton John, will top the bill in an event at Breadalbane Community Campus in Aberfeldy on June 23.

A limited number of tickets will go on sale today for £10 - a steal for the evening of entertainment which promises the Aberfeldy-based bands Star Wheel Press and Trees Don’t Travel as well as poets Jon Plunkett and Morag Anderson.

The school band will have a shot on stage too, proving this is an event for the school, by the school.

All funds raised go directly to Breadalbane Academy Parent Council so they can continue supporting school clubs and projects.

In preparing for the fundraising music night - which has cash bar and food open from 7pm and music from 7.30pm - local companies have lent a hand. Perthshire Sound and Light is kindly providing equipment to make this a wonderful event.

Tickets from www.tickettaylor.com or from campus reception. Children’s Classic Concerts is bringing smiles and music to Perth Festival of the Arts this weekend with Owen and Olly and a ‘mini-orchestra’ performing excerpts from Prokofiev’s iconic fairytale, Peter and the Wolf.

The programme is performed by CCC’s mini-orchestra of 18 essential musicians.

Members of the ensemble have been selected not only for their world-class musical talent, but for their ability to interact and have fun with the audience – ideal for bringing characters like Peter and his animal friends, the cat, duck and the bird, to life on stage.

The 11am concert on Saturday, May 19, in Perth Concert Hall will be a celebration of musical storytelling, transporting a family audience from Peter’s enchanted forest to Romeo and Juliet’s castle, stopping off for a spin around Sleeping Beauty’s ballroom and battling the odd magical broomstick along the way.

CCC presenters Owen Gunnell and Oliver Cox are also in on the act, ready to set the scene and get young imaginations running wild. They did a fine job in 2016 with a show celebrating Roald Dahl and his many children’s stories and Revolting Rhymes.

Madcap music-lover Owen told the PA: “We’re so excited about this new programme and can’t wait to get to Perth and put our own spin on such a wellknown story as Peter and the Wolf.

“Bring on the costumes, fun and games and no doubt, a bit of drama too.”

Sonic sidekick Oliver added: “I’m really looking forward to narrating Peter and the Wolf, I loved it when I was a kid.

“We’ve also got an impressive show tunes mash-up from arranger Paul Campbell who has done a brilliant job. It’s guaranteed to make the audience smile.”

And this year as always, there will be plenty of moments that get the audience up on their feet and joining in.

Tickets cost £6 for children and £10 for adults plus a £1.50 booking fee online from www.perthfestival.co.uk or 01738 621031. Owen and Olly
