Luncarty enjoya highfive

-

Proud Luncarty manager Jon Kelly watched his players move into second in the North Division on Saturday.

Now the Bleachers boss wants the Brownlands Park success story to continue.

A five-star performance away at Brechin Vics saw Kelly’s men return to Perthshire with three points.

Callum Kirkaldy, an own goal, Martin Maher, Danny Dobie and Sean Fergus helped Luncarty to a 5-0 win.

The journey home was made sweeter when news filtered through that Dundee Violet, second before kick-off, lost out to East Craigie.

Luncarty boss Kelly said: “We asked the players to go out and win the game as quickly as possible.

“Being 3-0 up after 15 minutes allowed me to rest as many legs as possible for Monday’s (last night) East of Scotland quarter-final.

“We had a target of promotion this year and we have achieved that.

“Luncarty Football Club is going in the right direction and I am very proud to be part of this.

“Just two years ago the club had no players at all so what we have achieved in a short space of time is, for me, outstanding.

“We knew before Saturday that second place guaranteed us Premier League football next season.

“Our target is the Super League and we now know that we are one promotion away from that.”

In the east Perthshire derby, seven goals entertained fans at Davie Park as Blairgowrie edged out Coupar Angus 4-3.

Gary Axworthy and a hattrick from Darren Neave did the damage for Blair while Lee Maloney (2) and Euan McIlvenny scored for Coupar.

There is North Division action tomorrow (Wednesday) night with Luncarty welcoming Coupar Angus to Brownlands Park. Blairgowrie are at home against Brechin Vics.
