Several incidents for SCAA crew
Several time-critical emergencies in the past week have sent Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) to the Borders, Highland Perthshire and the islands.
The helicopter air ambulance flew to the Borders in response to a cardiac emergency, airlifting a man to advanced care at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
SCAA flew to Glasgow to airlift a critical care team to a serious road traffic accident in the Borders.
The helicopter then airlifted the injured motorcyclist to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow accompanied by the advanced trauma care team. Later that day, the team was scrambled to a cardiac emergency near Ballater, airlifting a patient to Ninewells Hospital at Dundee.
SCAA’s ability to airlift patients quickly to hospital care from remote and island communities came to the fore again this week when they were called to a medical emergency at Millport.
The air ambulance airlifted the patient to Crosshouse Hospital at Kilmarnock.
After refuelling at Glasgow, SCAA was heading back to base at Scone when they were diverted to an equestrian accident near Hawick.
A woman had fallen off her horse and then been kicked by the animal, causing leg injuries.
SCAA airlifted the patient to Borders and General Hospital at Melrose - just a 12 minute flight from the scene of the accident.
Closer to home, SCAA made a quick trip to Highland Perthshire to treat and airlift a young boy injured in a fall at an outdoor centre.
The young patient was flown to Ninewells Hospital at Dundee.
Another week of vital donations being sent to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance has taken place.
A craft fair in Scone organised by Anne’s Hand-Knits raised £300 for SCAA while a raffle held at the Kirkmichael Hotel proved just the ticket with a further £47 coming to the charity.
And two retired Blairgowrie sisters who have supported SCAA for years donated £323.29 from their latest fundraising car boot sale and a donation.
The sisters have raised a fantastic total of £11,982 since they launched their fundraising efforts for SCAA.
St Dominic’s RC Primary School in Crieff staged a coffee morning and cake sale and raising £524.51 for SCAA. The ladies of Scone SWI responded to a presentation on the work of SCAA by donating £233 to the charity.
And two pupils at the Community School of Auchterarder who are supporting SCAA through their youth philanthropy initiative raised £129.43 by holding a bag pack at their local supermarket.
Several local supporters have just made straightforward donations to SCAA this week. They include a lady from Balbeggie who gifted £500 and a Pitlochry gentleman who also donated £500 to “a good cause”.
A Blairgowrie family selected SCAA to receive the retiring collection at the funeral of a loved one, raising £534.70. And a similar thoughtful gesture following the loss of a Pitlochry family member raised £578.03.
Motorcyclists from across Scotland are revving up for this year’s fundraising Biker Bash in aid of SCAA.
Motorcyclists and enthusiasts can take part or spectate when hundreds of bikes gather at SCAA’s Perth Airport HQ this Sunday before heading out on the road to take in some of the most spectacular routes through Perthshire.
Registration for riders opens at 9am with the motorcycles taking to the road at around 11am.
