Perth Road Runner Peter Ritchie this week fulfilled his ambition of completing a marathon on every continent.

After 21 years, the Rattray resident ticked off the final test of endurance by tackling the Lima Marathon in Peru where he crossed the line in a time of 4:48.

Back on home soil, Fair City athletes have been running races the length and breadth of Britain.

Ronnie Glen, Stewart Reid, John Rudd, Robin Wombill, Kevin Riddell, Gillian Edwards and Linda O’Neill travelled north to take part in the Cape Wrath Running Festival. Comprising of several distances throughout the week - from a fun run to a marathon - the event caters for everyone.

Ronnie was first home overall in the marathon in 3:19:35 while Stewart finished in 4:07:33, John in 5:03:11 and Robin in 6:22:43.

Kevin and Gillian retained their title from last year, taking home the first mixed relay team to finish the marathon in 3:14.

Table tennis star Gillian also ran the 10k and was fifth overall and second female in 46:01.

In the half marathon, Kevin was first to finish overall in 1:26:00, followed by Ronnie in 1:28:57 with Stewart, John and Linda also completing the course.

At the Dumbarton 10k Simon Grieshaber finished in a new personal best time of 40:15 and 10th in his category.

Neil Muir, meanwhile, took to the trails to run another Chilly Willy Race. He finished fifth overall and first M50 in 27:04.

Harriet Shaw was the lone green vest among over 20,000 runners down in Hackney where she finished the half marathon distance in 2:04:59.

Over at the Liverpool Rock n Roll Marathon, the club was represente­d by six runners, two who also ran the 5k race the day before.

Gair McRostie and Barry Campbell finished the 5k on Saturday in 22:03 and 23:04 respective­ly.

In the marathon, Garry Smith was first home for the club in 3:32:53.

He was followed by Gair in 4:01:50, Cheryl Gahan in 4:09:05, Stuart Cairns in 4:18:33, Barry in 4:34 and Hugh Daly in 4:55.

Elsewhere, three road runners took part in the Blairgowri­e and Rattray Access Network event.

This charity race was 8.25 miles and saw Kevin Rogers finishing second overall in 54:21 with Gillian Smith second female in 1:09:00.

There was also parkrun action keeping Perth members busy on Saturday. In Perth, Michael McConnell was second overall in 16:40 followed by Stuart Robertson in third in 17:35 and Richard Ward with a new personal best time of 18:12.

Catriona Liddell was the first female road runner back in 24:03 with Lorraine MacPherson in 26:41 and Wendy Burnett in 26:50 next home.

At the inaugural Lochore Meadows parkrun, Mike Dales finished in 23:54 and Fiona Manson in 24:10. St Andrews parkrun witnessed Kevin Rogers finish first overall in 18:16 while Gillian Smith came seventh female in 22:44.

Natalie King finished in 26:57 at Camperdown parkrun, Ruth Johnson ran Aviemore parkrun in 25:21 and Mark Crawford completed Fountains Abbey parkrun in 18:56.

Flying the flag in Croatia was Caroline Ness, who ran the Saucony Paklenica Trail. The 25km race has 1100m of elevation over some very difficult terrain. She finished third in her category in a time of 6:37:28.

The Brig Bash, which is hosted by Perth Road Runners, opens for entry on Entry Central on Sunday, May 27 at 6pm.
