Pupils have pedal power
Two lucky youngsters from Perthshire got on their bikes this week.
Jake Hamilton from North Muirton Primary and Shannon Lyon from Fossaway were presented with bikes for attending the SafeTaysiders event last month.
The pair were invited to council HQ to receive their bikes, provided by Halfords, from Councillor Peter Barratt and Chief Inspector Ian Scott.
SafeTaysiders is an annual event organised by the Community Safety Partnership which took place at the Queens Barracks in Perth and was attended by 1500 primary seven pupils from nearly every primary school in Perth and Kinross.
Cllr Barrett, who is convenor of housing and communities, said: “SafeTaysiders is a fantastic event. It has been running for years but moved last year to the Queens Barracks where it has been a great success.
“SafeTaysiders provides interactive and practical hands-on advice on how young people can contribute to their own personal and wider community safety.
“We are very grateful to 7 Scots for their support and other special mentions should go to Stagecoach, who once again provided all the transport; Highland Spring, who provided the water; Tesco who provided food for the children; and last but not least, to Halfords who provide the bikes.
“Everyone’s support is extremely important. It’s a real team effort which ensures young people get a broad range of good information designed to keep them safe, at an important time in their lives.”
