Craigie kids miss out on park fun

- Rachel Clark

Children in Craigie will not be able to play in their local park over the summer holidays.

Darnhall Park was closed off in November so Bellway Homes could carry out sewage storage works underground as part of their new housing development at Cherrybank.

The works have been completed but the park has not been restored.

Only one small patch of grass has been returfed and children are still unable to play on it because it is behind barriers.

A number of angry residents have been pushing Bellway Homes to move forward with their obligation to restore the park.

Liz Barrett said it is clear the park will not be open in time for the schools breaking up for the summer holidays on Thursday, despite assurances from Bellway Homes this month that it would be.

She said: “I don’t think Bellway have any understanding of the anger and frustration in the community about the way they have treated residents over this.

“I have contacted the company yet again to point out that the park will not be ready for the holidays and to ask them when the rest of the area will be turfed.”

Children living near the park will only be able to look on at the play equipment and basketball court over the holidays, which remain sealed off behind barriers.

Cllr Willie Wilson, who represents Perth City South on Perth and Kinross Council, said: “I am calling on the council to press Bellway to fulfil their reinstatement obligations to the local community and ensure that the whole area is turfed and watered as soon as possible.

“The delay is completely unacceptable.

“We visited the site again today and will continue to monitor this until we are satisfied the work is being properly done.”
