Drivers face long delays at Broxden

-

Major roadworks had motorists stuck in hour-long queues over the weekend.

Roadworks at Broxden roundabout saw thousands stuck in nose-to-tail jams stretching from the roundabout all the way back to the Friarton Bridge on Saturday and Sunday.

And Bear Scotland said motorists should be ready for similar delays this weekend.

The extensive roadworks saw queues between the Craigend junction and Broxden. It took drivers around an hour to travel from Bridge of Earn to Inveralmond along the M90, a journey which normally takes around 15 minutes.

Alan Fulton (29) had been travelling through Broxden to Glasgow to meet his newborn niece when he got stuck in the chaotic traffic.

He said: “It was terrible. As soon as we got across the Friarton Bridge it was nose-to-tail until Broxden.

“There was only one warning sign, just before we got across the Friarton, and we didn’t expect it to be that bad.”

The roadworks are taking place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night and throughout the weekend.

A spokesperson for Bear Scotland said “We’re carrying out a £900,000 improvement project to upgrade sections of the A9 and M90 trunk roads around Perth, including Broxden Roundabout.

“The works are progressing well and this weekend saw the completion of the surfacing of a section of the southbound A9 from Broxden Roundabout.

“We always work to minimise delays as much as possible and the traffic management is installed to ensure the safety of our workforce as well as road users.

“We thank road users for their patience while we carry out these essential resurfacing improvements and encourage them to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website.”
