Name in here An enterprising teenager planned to get funds to start up a legitimate business by selling cocaine, Perth Sheriff Court was told.

But his ambitions have been left in tatters after he was given eight months’ detention at Perth Sheriff Court.

The 17-year-old, who can’t be named because of his age, admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug at a home in Aberfeldy on November 12 last year.

He also pled guilty to a second charge of having the Class B drug cannabis in his possession the same day. When police searched the property, they seized £2,000 worth of cocaine and almost £800 in cash, found in a bedroom.

Solicitor David Holmes sBauidlltehteGcoruerat “clearly concerned”at the amount of Class A drugs, as well as the money.

“He knew people who took cocaine and thought he would be able to sell it and get money to start up a legitimate business,” explained the lawyer.

Because of the accused’s age, he urged the sheriff to consider imposing a“high end” Community Payback Order, with unpaid work, as an alternative to custody.

Sheriff Gillian Wade said she had given “serious consideration”to that option.

But she added:“Given the amount and value and the circumstances - I don’t consider there’s an alternative.”

The teen was given eight months on the cocaine dealing charge and a concurrent 12 weeks for the cannabis offence.

Sheriff Wade also ordered the forfeiture of £785 in cash.
