Education is the key to tackling drug addiction

-

My name is Dillon Kennedy and I’m a young person in Perth and Kinross.

Some people may recognize me as I was the former Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament for Perthshire South.

During my term, I wrote monthly columns for this paper on issues ranging from legal highs to youth unemployment.

During my time as MSYP I looked at tackling legal highs as it was a major issue in Perth and I’m now looking at creating an education resource pack to take to schools to educate young people and ensure that it doesn’t become an issue again.

Things have obviously changed and time has flown by.

I’m now enjoying my new role as a UK Youth Leader. What does that entail? I get to network with young people from the UK and from the USA and attend various events.

I’m using my initiative and I’m working with fellow youth leaders on an issue affecting both of our countries. This issue is opioids. The definitions of opioids is a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin.

I believe this is a major issue and im looking into more education on the subject through a film or documentary on YouTube called The Epidemic.

I‘m also looking at working with the government here and abroad to talk and tackle this issue head on.

I want to take this time to talk about the other project I am working on with my good friends Sally Smith and Tony Anderson.

The project is called #AIMBIG which is to inspire young people to become youth leaders in all aspects of life.

We’ve made progress doing little interviews for YouTube talking about our life’s and what our goals and ambitions.

I’m looking to extend that to work with inspiring young people.

Interviewees will include John White, founder of The John White Little Star Foundation, and James Bundy chairman of Conservative Future Scotland.

These episodes will be released soon on my channel.

Let me know what issues you want me to focus on in these columns.

You can let me know through email which is at Dillonkennedy00@gmail. com

I also promote the work im doing through my twitter which is @kennedy_YLUK.

I look forward to hearing from you Former MSYP Dillon Kennedy will be bringing you his views on issues affecting young people each month
