Judges from Britain in Bloom are coming to Perth on Thursday, August 9.

Expert judges Rae Beckwith and James Cordingley have been travelling the length and breadth of the UK to assess all nine entries in the ‘large town’ category of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom Awards 2018.

Volunteers from local charity Beautiful Perth will lead the judges on a tour of the city, showing them floral displays, flower beds and environmental projects, and meeting some of the many volunteers, partners and community groups who work with Beautiful Perth.

Beautiful Perth chairman John Summers said: “We are very proud and excited to be a Britain in Bloom finalist this year.

“We’re up against stiff competition in our category, from Tunbridge Wells, Bury St Edmunds, Oswestry, Congleton, Colwyn Bay, Penrith, Beverley and Ballymena. They are all lovely places but so is Perth – and we’d love to get one of those coveted gold medals.

“I’d like to thank our many volunteers, sponsors and partners for their support. They have all helped put Perth in a position to do really well – I can’t wait to hear the outcome of the judges’ deliberations in October.”

The judges are assessing the ‘In Bloom’ entries against three key criteria: horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.
